REID CALLS FOR REFORM OF INLAND WATER RESCUE

Commenting as the Scottish Parliament is set to debate the review on water safety capabilities in Scotland, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll and Bute, Alan Reid said:

“Following April’s tragic accident at Loch Awe, it is vital that Scotland’s inland water rescue capabilities are reformed.

NEARLY 3,000 PENSIONERS IN ARGYLL & BUTE ARE MISSING OUT ON COLD WEATHER PAYMENTS

Alan Reid MP has called on the Government to make every effort to identify the nearly 3,000 Argyll & Bute pensioners who are missing out on Cold Weather Payments to which they are entitled.
 

REID WELCOMES PROPOSAL FOR VIDEO LINK FOR PASSPORT INTERVIEWS IN OBAN

Alan Reid, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll & Bute, welcomed the Government’s proposal for a video link to enable interviews with first time passport applicants to be held in Oban.
 
Mr Reid was speaking after a meeting with Passport Minister Meg Hillier at which the video link proposal was agreed. The video link is subject to a suitable location being found in Oban for the interviews.
 

REID HITS OUT AT TAX OFFICE CLOSURES IN OBAN, DUNOON & ROTHESAY

Alan Reid, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll & Bute, criticised the Government decision to close the tax offices in Oban, Dunoon & Rothesay. These offices will close during the 2010/2011 financial year..

Local newspapers could lose valuable income if a plan by the SNP Government to publish public notices on-line instead of in local newspapers goes ahead.

REID ATTENDS COMMUNITY CONSULTATION DAY IN ROTHESAY

Alan Reid MP attended today’s consultation in Rothesay’s Pavilion on the plans for a community buy out of Rhubodach forest.
 
Mr Reid said,  “This community buyout is an exciting project with a great deal of potential, but it’s up to the people of Bute to decide whether or not they support it. I urge everyone on the island to examine the proposals and take part in the postal ballot.”
