Argyll & Bute Scottish Liberal Democrats

Alan Reid, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll & Bute, attended Waterwatch Scotland’s public meeting in Campbeltown on Friday 12 February.

The meeting was a follow up to Waterwatch’s highly critical report on Scottish Water’s performance in Campbeltown which was published in May 2009.

Following the Government’s announcement that Search & Rescue services are to be privatised, the number of helicopters reduced from 38 to 24 and the base moved from Prestwick to Glasgow Airport, Alan Reid, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll & Bute wrote to Defence Secretary Bob Ainsworth seeking assurances about the future effectiveness of the service.

Mr Reid said,

Alan Reid, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll & Bute, welcomed the Treasury announcement that they would examine schemes operating in other European countries in which the duty is reduced on fuel sold at the pumps in remote rural areas.
 
The announcement of the investigation was made by Treasury Minister Sarah McCarthy-Fry following a debate on fuel duty in which Alan Reid had spoken.
 

Following the decisive 93% vote on Bute in favour of buying Rhubodach Forest, Alan Reid MP said,
 
‘I congratulate the islanders of Bute and Bute Community Land Company on a decisive vote in favour of the community purchase of Rhubodach Forest - the largest community buy-out so far.
 

Commenting on the Scottish Budget for 2010-11, Alan Reid, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll & Bute said:
 
“I welcome the £1 million Post Office diversification fund. Sub postmasters and postmistresses will be able to access this fund to expand and diversify their businesses. I know from talking to sub postmasters and postmistresses throughout Argyll & Bute, that they are keen to expand their businesses, but have experienced difficulties accessing the cash to enable them to so.

Speaking after the Scottish Parliament’s debate on the Tomkins review of Scotland’s water safety capabilities, Liberal Democrat MP for Argyll and Bute Alan Reid said:

“Following the tragic accident at Loch Awe last April, it is vital that the Scottish Government improves Scotland’s inland water rescue capabilities.
