REID HIGHLIGHTS THREAT TO LOCAL NEWSPAPERS
Local newspapers could lose valuable income if a plan by the SNP Government to publish public notices on-line instead of in local newspapers goes ahead.
Responding to the announcement, Alan Reid MP said,
“Local papers are at the heart of the community in Argyll & Bute and are vital for communicating with the public. If a public notice is only published on-line, it is unlikely that many people will stumble upon it.
“Councils will be able to slip through controversial issues like planning applications and parking charges unnoticed if the SNP get their way.
“I urge everyone to object to this proposal before the consultation period ends on 12 February.”
NOTES: To object to the proposal, people should write to Shared Services Team, Area 3-H South, Victoria Quay, Edinburgh, EH6 6QQ saying that they wish to object to the Local Authority Public Information Notices (Electronic Publication) (Scotland) Order 2010 and giving their reasons.
