The independent auditor, Sir Thomas Legg, who is scrutinising all MPs' expenses, has given the all-clear to Alan Reid's expenses.
A London newspaper, which obviously didn't understand the size of Argyll & Bute, had criticised Alan Reid for incurring expenses to stay away from home overnight while carrying out his duties in his constituency.
However, the independent auditor had no queries at all regarding Alan Reid's expenses.
Alan Reid thinks it is important that he makes himself available to constituents and holds surgeries throughout Argyll & Bute on a regular basis. At the same time, he keeps expenses to a minimum. His expenses total for this Parliament is the third lowest of any Scottish MP, despite the extra costs of representing a large rural constituency.
He is supporting moves to reform the discredited Parliamentary expenses system. Expenses must be reduced and opened up to public scrutiny.
